Our mission
CragLocal brings climbers closer to the places they climb, inspiring connection, contribution, and respect.
Each region on CragLocal has its own guide, with the climbing information you need and the local context that helps you understand the place: its access, nature, culture, community and services.
Our vision
Every climber a temporary local.
A climbing world where people discover destinations through trusted local knowledge, feel part of the local community, and help keep crags healthy, accessible, and alive for future generations. Visitors arrive knowing where to park, when a sector is closed, who bolted the routes and where to get a good coffee.
Our philosophy
How we climb
The attitude we ask of every climber, every region and ourselves.
Discover with local knowledge.
The people who bolt the routes and live below the crag know what no topo shows: when the wall is in the shade, where to park, which sectors close for nesting birds.
Connect with community.
Every crag comes with a village, a club and the people who keep it open. Meet them, ask them, and have a coffee in the village.
Climb in a way that lasts.
Respect closures, park where locals ask, take all your rubbish home and keep the noise down. Leave the crag better than you found it.
Our principles
How we build CragLocal
Local knowledge comes first
Grades and route descriptions are the start. We also share conditions, access, seasonal closures, nature, local customs and the character of each place.
Respect every crag
Every climbing area has its own environment, access arrangements and limits, and its own relationship with the people who live around it.
Connect people with places
Help climbers discover the people, stories, culture and landscapes that make each place different, as well as its routes.
Make responsible climbing easier
Put local guidance where climbers will see it, in plain words, so they can make informed choices and avoid harm they didn't know they were causing.
Give back to the places we climb
Support local initiatives, give climbers simple ways to help, and credit the people who bolt and maintain the routes.
Keep information trustworthy and locally informed
Local climbers write and check the guide, and local communities decide how sensitive information is shared. A smaller guide that's current beats a bigger one that's stale.
Grow thoughtfully
More visitors isn't always better. We think about the long-term health of each crag and the community around it, and help each region welcome climbers in a way that fits.
